About me
Hello everyone! I’m Jennifer Slater, former 1st grade teacher at Jones-Farrar, an IB World School of 11 years (my 1st dream job, loved it, but my family needed me more present). Now, I am enjoying my next dream job of being Empire's PreK-4th grade art teacher! I grew up in the area and stay active coaching various ages and sports, have taught a wide range of topics from Summer School 1st grade to PE, Nature Club, Tutoring, Sunday School, Cub Scouts, to leading the PC Girl Scouts. My husband and I have an 9 year old girl and a 6 year old boy, who has severe ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder. It was through my intense 1st graders' growing social and emotion needs before COVID even started, teaching them to read through Zoom and Seesaw, the impacts after those tough years, along with our son's journey that I found TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention), calm down corners with techniques for littles, sensory diets, visual schedules, timers, and many more little accommodations that make sense to help everyone in our school day!
I, by no means, have it all figured out...but have learned a lot along the way as a parent and educator. I truly love to help others and thought it’s time to pass along my 17 years worth of goodies I’ve learned to the next wave of educators & parents! My sessions will be an open format to share, collaborate, brainstorm, and be stronger for each other just by being there. Together we can make a difference :-)
